Biography

Bebetta Campeti

Bebetta Campeti was born in Caracas in 1958 and became a shamanic practitioner through a 30 year path of research and introspection, which led her to travel in five continents and study with many great teachers all over the world. Since an early age she is interested in esoteric studies and history of religions, notably on religious synchretism and women’s spirituality.

In 1979 she received a BA at Sarah Lawrence College, New York, where she studied Theater, Anthropology and Creative Writing. In 1978-1981 she worked as an actress in Bernardo Bertolucci’s film Luna, and in experimental theater.

In the 80’s she wrote, directed and produced anthropological documentaries both independently and for Italian State TV, in Italy, Venezuela, Usa, Ghana and Japan. In 1990 she published the monologue Diotima, Eros’ Revenge,  staged in many Italian theaters.

In 1991 her play Ocean, an existential conference, inspired by the work of Gregory Bateson, received a special mention of the jury at the Riccione Theater Prize.

Since 1996 she studied and practiced Tibetan Buddhism with Lama Khyongla Rato Rinpoce, founder of New York’s Tibet Center, Tantric Shaivism of Kashmir with masters Daniel Odier and Nathalie Delay, for whom she translated many seminars, and she deepened her knowledge of  women’s spirituality with feminist Yogini Vicki Noble.

In 2008 she was initiated by Dr. Ray Henshall, master shaman and student of Michael Harner of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, and worked with him intensively for several years.

In 2011 she traveled to the Peruvian Amazon to Mayantuyacu, center of traditional medicine of Ashaninka Master Juan Flores Salazar.

Since 2011 she holds seminars and lectures in Milan and Tuscany, at the Aurora center she founded to host residential workshops.

From 2012 to 2015 she created, produced and hosted the Aurora Nature & Spirit Festival, an international inter-disciplinary event taking place around the summer solstice in Aurora’s center on the beautiful rolling hills of southern Tuscany, and in the nearby Renaissance town of Pienza. Guests included activists, artists, shamans, teachers & international speakers from all over the world.

In 2013 she met master shaman Jonathan Horwiz, with whom she started on another stage of this path.
